Chief Charlot, also know as Charlot, Claw of the Little Grizzly, was head chief of the Bitterroot Salish from 1870 to 1910. Here he wears a top hat and frock coat. His face is painted white.

This painting is inspired by a photo taken by Edward H Boos in 1907.

It was said that performing the Ghost Dance would peacefully end the dominance of the white Man and return abundance to the land, including the return of the Buffalo.

Red Indian by K Henderson

                                                   

Red Indian, oil and gold leaf on linen, 30 x 40

And now for something completely different. This is the 3rd in a series of paintings using the logo of the Indian motorcycle. I was inspired by a red gas tank with gold lettering.

I like the contrast between the bright contemporary background and the more traditional and subdued colors of the American Indian figure.

This Plains Indian wears a bonnet of feathers, beads, bells, ermine tails and trade cloth. His face is painted white with a black Coup Mark (hand). The regalia is completed with a beaded shirt and 2 shell necklaces.

Hano Clown - American Indian

Hano Clown is oil on canvas, 20 x 30.

The Hano Clown, also known as a koshari, wears a black and white head dress with horns made of sheepskin. The horns are stuffed with grass and have cornhusk tassels at the tips. Tufts of cornhusks are also worn at the ears.

Three sizes of Prints available: 15" x 23", 12" x 18", 8" x12"  Image Sizes are Approximate and not exact! In addition, there is a 1/2" white border around the image so the print can be easily matted. This is a Giclee Print on high-grade Epson Enhanced Matte paper.

The giclée fine art print process is able to reproduce the detail and essence of the original oil painting but at a more affordable price than an original K Henderson Painting. The images are printed on high-grade Epson Enhanced Matte paper. They are shipped  in a heavy weight 3” mailing tube by Priority USPS. They are not framed and not mounted

They Came No More - American Indian

This is a painting of a Plains Indian with a beaded and quilled shirt. He carries a shield with a golden eagle bundle. This bundle was a token of power. It could be removed from the shield to be carried, used in rituals or placed in a dwelling.

Scout is a warrior wearing 3 eagle feathers with most of the vane removed. Removing the vane is a symbol of battle honors.

In the background is a buffalo hunt like you would find on a painted buffalo robe

Peacekeeper - American Indian

I've had a busy week reorganizing my studio and having a nice visit with Randy and Janna, owners of Warriors Work gallery, Hill City, SD. I've been showing in that gallery for many years.

But I had some time to do a painting. I used to paint a lot of old, weathered, wrinkled warriors and I had a request to create another one.

Since 1901 - American Indian

Since 1901, 30 x 40, oil on linen.

I really enjoyed creating the painting 'Indian' based on the logo for the Indian Motorcycle, so I painted this second, larger one.
This one shows an American Indian wearing a feathered headdress as the Indian in the logo.
