"Forsaken" Giclee Print, 8 x 10, American Indian, Western Art from original Oil Painting
Printed image is approx. 7" x 9" on 8" x 10" paper
This Plains Indian Has his face painted white. The Coup Mark (hand) painted on his face represents bravery. To be first to touch the enemy was regarded as the bravest deed of all, it was even a point of bravado for a single warrior to rush in among the enemy and strike one with quirt, coup stick or gun before attempting to fire, thus risking his own life.

Quills and Cones by K Henderson
Quills and Cones, 8 x 10, oil on panel
Porcupine quillwork is an art form completely unique to North America. Before the introduction of glass beads, quillwork was a major decorative element used by the peoples who resided in the porcupine's natural habitat. In regions where the porcupine was not found, quills generally became a significant trade item.Although it was the practice to use the quills from porcupines, it was not an uncommon practice to use bird quills.
Quills were often dyed red, yellow, green, purple and orange. To get these colors, the quills are soaked in moss, roots, berries, herbs and other plants.
